LIMBANG: The Sarawak government is committed to improving sports and recreation infrastructure in the Limbang and Lawas areas.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said such infrastructure will be improved from time to time.

“The government is building a swimming facility in Lawas and upgrading the pool in Limbang.

“In addition, the government has also designed and implemented projects to build various types of sports facilities,” he said following the closing of the Limbang Divisional School Sports Council (MSSB) athletics championship here recently.

He said the government will implement projects in stages, both in the town and the villages.

“This includes field facilities, halls to play badminton and sepak takraw as well as futsal court facilities that have been built in the village area.

“I also intend to make Limbang Division the host of large-scale sports events such as the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) in the future.

“It is crucial to adhere to sports infrastructure standards in order to effectively manage events based on available facilities,” he explained.

Meanwhile, RM10,000 was donated by Datuk Henry Sum Agong, RM20,000 by Deputy Minister Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, and RM10,000 by Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang.

MSSB Limbang will use this provision to send a team to participate in the Sarawak state level championship in Miri.
