Awang Tengah meets ‘Anak S’wak’ in UK

LONDON: Malaysia’s High Commissioner to United Kingdom & Northern Ireland Datuk Mohamad Sadik Kethergany has pledged to assist Sarawak counter the negative perceptions on the state’s development policies, especially on land and forest management, among European countries.

Mohamad Sadik, who is a Sarawakian from Kuching said this in a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan at the High Commission of Malaysia office in London last Tuesday.

Awang is leading a delegation from the state Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development (Mintred) to the United Kingdom.

The meeting was also attended by Trade Commissioner, Matrade United Kingdom Megat Iskandar Ahmad Dassilah.

Awang Tengah told the meeting that Sarawak’s land and forest management policies were among the best in the world for balanced and sustainable development but was misunderstood by the west.

He said the High Commissioner would support Sarawak’s initiatives to attract trade and investments from the United Kingdom.

Awang Tengah gave the latest updates on Sarawak’s investment climate and incentives as well as land and forest management policies to the High Commission.

The High Commissioner will assist to promote Sarawak as tourism destination especial on culture, adventure and nature to UK and other European countries.

The Sarawak delegation includes International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Assistant Minister Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, the ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Liaw Soon Eng and senior government officials.
