KUCHING: In conjunction with the, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) New Intake Week for the 2017/2018 Session, a programme called Malam Rumpun Budaya (Cultural Night) was held at the varsity hall Arena Gemilang, DeTAR Putra, UNIMAS.

This event was held as a cultural competition between residential colleges of UNIMAS students and was found out to be an awesome occasion.

Its main objective was to enliven the New Intake Week of UNIMAS students and at the same time giving the opportunity for new talents to be exposed or revealed. This competition does not end with the New Intake Week but is an ongoing contest and event throughout the students’ stay in the varsity. Winners will have the chance to represent the varsity in future inter-varsity contests pertaining to culture within the country or overseas.

This time around their contest was themed ‘Contemporary Ethnics’ in Malaysia.

Apart from that, there were also Acostic Band Contest dubbed ‘Cheers’ between the residential colleges. The overall of the contest took home a challenge trophy ‘Sri Kandil Kencana Pokta’. This was a special challenge trophy for the Champion of The Cultural Night Contest held in conjunction with New Intake Welcome Week of UNIMAS. The contest result was as follows:

Acoustic Band Contest champion was the Bunga Raya College (BRC) followed in second place by Cempaka College and Tun Ahmad Zaidi College in third. For the Dance Competition, Cempaka College came up top followed by Tun Ahmad Zaidi College (TAZ) whereas in third placing was Bunga Raya College (BRC).

Meanwhole in the Cheers contest, Sakura College prevailed over others namely Alamanda College that came up second and Tun Ahmad Zaidi College came out third best.

Present to grace the Cultural night was The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students Affairs).
