SRI AMAN: Local communities must continue to full support and cooperation to their elected representatives.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs. Information, and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said this was crucial as it would enable the elected representatives to guide and inform the local people on the government’s agenda.

“Stay away from negative political culture such as suspicion or slander as it can divide us,” he said when officiating at the Majlis Ziarah UKAS @ Komuniti ‘Semarak Ramadan’ at Lingga Futsal Court on Wednesday (April 27).

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Abdullah full cooperation and support for leaders would give them the opportunity to carry out their tasks entrusted to them.

He said among the leaders’ agenda was to improve the living standards of the local community, including bridging the gap in infrastructure development between urban and rural areas.

Referring to telecommunications issues in Lingga as an example, he said the state government was working to set up a telecommunication system there.

“With this, telecommunication companies such as Digi or Celcom will be able to provide their services to this area more consistently in the future,” he said.

The Majlis Ziarah UKAS for areas in the Lingga constituency was attended by 180 guests comprising heads of department, community leaders, village heads and the local people.

Later, Abdullah and Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor presented donations in the form of daily necessities and Ramadan food to the participants.

Also present were UKAS director Samat Junai, Lingga acting District Officer Frank Lani and Temenggong Mohamad Shah Achang.
