Man who broke downstair neighbour’s ceiling fined RM2k

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to a fine of RM2,000 or two months imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here, today, for damaging the ceiling of a 52-year-old male victim’s house to the extent of causing a loss of RM300.

Helmi, 40, pleaded guilty to a charge under section 427 of the Penal Code which was read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

According to the charges, he is accused of committing the act in an apartment house at MJC Batu Kawah, at around 7.50pm, Sept 23.

If convicted, he can be punished with imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than five years or fine or both.

According to the charges, while the complainant was sitting in the living room watching television, suddenly the ceiling of his house broke.

Then, the complainant saw a man (accused) about to enter the living room.

The complainant shouted forbidding the man involved to go downstairs and then called the police for help.

The investigation found that the accused had entered the ceiling of the complainant’s house and hid without permission to cause damage.

The estimated loss suffered by the accused is around RM300.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer ASP Rogayah Rosli while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
