KUCHING: The Bako Passenger Terminal, which was upgraded recently, now provides a safe and proper landing facility for locals and tourists alike.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the facility would be managed by Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) as it would be gazetted in the Sarawak Rivers Traffic Regulation 1993 and Sarawak Rivers Ordinance 1993.

“The terminal is a riverine facility for the embarkation and disembarkation of visitors from Kampung Bako to Bako National Park.

“The number of visitors recorded for the past three years, from 2018 until 2020, was 137,886,” Lee said today.

He revealed that the upgrading work cost RM2.68 mln.

“The upgrade included the expansion of the existing terminal building, upgrading of existing pontoons and ramps, construction of parameter fencing with proper guardhouse and provision of ample parking spaces as well as waiting for space for stage buses.”

Lee said SRB would station enforcement officers at the terminal to monitor the 74 existing licensed boats, passenger safety and to prevent overloading and unregulated fare.
