BALAI RINGIN: Care for your neighbours and your community.

This is the advice of Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis today to the longhouse folks at Rumah Jaban Uja in Krangan Jaya here.

A caring attitude, he pointed out, could help to prevent social ills in the community, especially drug abuse among the younger generation.

“This attitude is necessary because it means we are concerned about what is happening around the community,” he said at the special dialogue session entitled “Randau Pemansang” at the longhouse.

According to Harden, who is also Simanggang assemblyman, the major causes of drug addiction included curiosity and friends’ influence.

He added the drug problem was increasingly serious with the availability of roads that linked remote villages to neighbouring countries, making it easier to get drug supplies and difficult for the authorities to control.

He hoped the drug awareness programme organised by the Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry would benefit the villagers.

Meanwhile, among the activities held in conjunction with the “Randau Pemansang” were an exhibition, opening of service counters by 13 strategic partners as well as a telematch.

Also present were Kedup assemblyman Martin Ben, Serian Resident Jonathan Lugoh and Serian district officer Lim Hock Meng.
