Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and his delegation visit an exhibition booth displaying geospatial technologies at the Esri User Conference 2022 in San Diego Convention Centre, California, USA. The Sarawak delegation attended the plenary sessions on the opening day of the conference yesterday.

KUCHING: A delegation from the Sarawak Government attended the Esri User Conference 2022 at the San Diego Convention Center to benchmark the state digital transformation and also to learn the best practices and latest geospatial technologies in the market.

The Sarawak delegation led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan attended the plenary sessions on the opening day of the conference yesterday.

The user conference shares examples of outstanding works from the GIS user community, the future and advancements in GIS and technology direction.

In a press statement, it added the conference also covered technology innovation in GIS to battle climate change, GIS projects as enablers to help community, GIS analytic roles for better informed decision making.

“GIS professionals are catalysts to help people understand the world better and integration of 2D and 3D GIS technology to unleash the potential of mapping our world with details,” it said.

Awang Tengah and the delegations were invited to the National Government Executive Forum, bringing together executives and senior managers of national geospatial data authorities, including national mapping, charting, land administration, cadastre and statistical organisations.

“Members of the delegation visited the ESRI Expo to learn and experience the technologies that are useful for our future reference and continuous transformation in LASIS Next Generation, Utility Mapping, Town Planning and Minerals Management.

“They also have a meeting with ESRI Malaysia to discuss and elaborate on the use of GIS technologies, in particular on soil stability, minerals mapping, forest sustainability, gas distribution masterplan, climate change, tourism, and talent development.”

Natural Resources & Urban Planning Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Advisor to Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) General Manager Dr Zaidi Razak, Sarawak Service Modernization Unit (SSMU) Director Michael Ronnie Langgong, Land and Survey Department Acting Director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood and other senior officers from Sarawak Civil Service were among the delegation members.
