KUCHING: Among Malaysian tourist destinations, this city stands out as the most affordable option for year-end holidays. According to a press release by Agoda, a digital travel platform, this city offers an average room rate of RM282, making it an attractive choice.
Agoda analysed the average room rates of tourist destinations from December 22 to 31. This city is renowned for its lively street markets, delicious street food, breathtaking natural scenery, and historic landmarks such as the Sarawak Cultural Village.
“It’s the perfect family getaway, allowing you to embrace nature and make the most of your extra vacation days,” stated the press release.
“In December, Kuching transforms into a festive wonderland adorned with colorful lights and decorations. Take a leisurely stroll along the scenic Kuching Waterfront or join the annual Kuching Christmas parade for some festive fun. “Don’t miss the iconic Padungan Roundabout Cat Statue, which never fails to dress up for the occasion.
Locals and visitors gather at the lively Carpenter Street, where the vibrant nightlife scene gets an extra layer of excitement on New Year’s Eve.”
Agoda emphasised that the average room rates for the period of December 22 to December 31, 2023, were calculated based on available Agoda data as of September 18, 2023.
Apart from Kuching, the Asia Pacific region offers other destinations with low average accommodation rates.
These include Hat Yai in Thailand, Yogyakarta in Indonesia, Dalat in Vietnam, Goa in India, Baguio in the Philippines, Nagoya in Japan, Taichung in Taiwan, Melbourne in Australia, and Busan in South Korea. The average room rates range from RM202 in Hat Yai to RM742 in Busan.
“2023 has witnessed a significant resurgence in travel across Asia as people reconnect with friends, family, and loved ones.
The special end-of-year holiday period is likely to be no different,” said Cleland Robertson, director of Partner Services – Malaysia and Brunei at Agoda.
“But whether you’re embarking on a solo adventure or creating memories with loved ones, traveling during peak season means higher demand. Therefore, finding that special bargain can make all the difference.”
