Bidayuh artistes good for global stage

KUCHING: Bidayuh musicians and artistes who have great musical talents and creativity have the potential to compete at a global stage and beyond.

“With their musical talents and creativity, I think it will be possible for them to be at national or international level to show people that Bidayuh musicians and artistes possess talent in the music industry.

“Therefore we should appreciate and support our Bidayuh musicians and artistes for their efforts to create good music that can entertain the people,” said Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin.

He said this when officiating at the seventh edition of Bidayuh Song Chart Award (ACLB) at the P Ramlee Auditorium, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Kuching, last Saturday.

ACLB is a programme which helps seek new talents and highlights the involvement of Bidayuh singers, songwriters and lyricists.

“We do have many talented musicians and artistes in the Bidayuh music industry and with that talent that they have, I think they can go further in the industry.

“One day, Bidayuh artistes not only sing Bidayuh songs, they can also be singing songs in Malay and English as well,” he said.

Willie also encouraged musicians to be more competitive at all levels and to use their musical talents to the fullest as it can take them further in the music industry.

He encouraged Bidayuh youth who are interested in music to be inspired by previous artistes and develop their creative potential to help expand the Bidayuh music industry.

At the award programme, 10 finalists comprising of Bidayuh singers and bands competed against each other for the title.

‘Sisalila’ by Remix R2 band won the Most Popular Song while the Best Vocal was won by Carrie Geres. She won RM5,000 in prize money.

Cornelius Lim with his song ‘Renteb’ won second place and pocketed RM3,000 while Claudia Geres singing ‘Kenak Dok Madin’ won third place earning RM2,000.
