Bigger crowd expected at 10-day Samarahan festival

KOTA SAMARAHAN: About 200,000 visitors are being expected at the Samarahan Food and Culture Festival (SFCF) 2024 which will take place on May 10-19 at Aiman Mall here.

Organised by Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), the 10-day festival will feature traditional food products and popular food.

According to organising chairlady Dr Florince Christy, it will also showcase art, customs, culture and traditional games found in Sarawak.

“The last time SFCF was organised was in 2022 where it managed to attract a total of 98,819 visitors,” she said on Tuesday.

“This year, we hope this SFCF will be able to attract as many as 200,000 visitors.”

She added that the SFCF this year will also see an attempt to get into the record books.

About 100 types of ulam-ulam will go on display will a view to enter the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) on May 19.

Meanwhile, the MPKS has provided for 83 stalls to sell food and handicrafts.

“During the SFCF 2024, various cultural activities from various races will also be shown every night,” said Dr Florince.

“These will include the Bermukun Performance, Zapin Sindang Performance, Chinese Orchestra Performance, 24 Season Drum Performance (Chinese), Pampat Iban Gendang Performance.

“Also featuring will be the Bugis Traditional Dress Show, the Bugis Dance and Music Performance and the Ngajat Iban and Bidayuh Performance,” she added.

This year’s event will be inaugurated by the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on May 10.
