BINTULU: The contribution of frontline workers is the main foundation underlying the success of the Malaysian government in curbing the spread of COVID-19, said Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah.
Without the front-line personnel who have sacrificed a lot, it will be difficult to curb the spread of COVID-19 which now has seen success in shifting to the endemic phase, he pointed out.
“These front-line officials are not only willing to sacrifice their time to shoulder the responsibilities given to them but are also committed to carrying out their duties in ensuring the safety and health of the community and port residents when the COVID-19 first struck our country,” he said in his speech at an appreciation dinner with the front-line workers held at a local hotel last Wednesday night.
The dinner is an initiative of the Crisis Management Team Secretariat of BPHP Group as an appreciation to the company’s frontline workers and various frontline agencies in Bintulu who have contributed their service, energy and time throughout the movement control order (MCO) period which started March 18, 2020.
In addition, Medan said that throughout the pandemic, the BPHB Group did not fail to fulfil its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, helping agencies that needed assistance in terms of equipment to ensure the smooth functioning of their duties during the COVID-19 pandemic
“In fact, the company has also collaborated with various agencies to turn the Taman Sri Pelabuhan Multi-Purpose Hall into one of the COVID-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) in Bintulu in addition to continuing corporate social responsibility programs such as donating food baskets to local community groups who affected by the pandemic,” he added.
At the dinner, he presented certificates of appreciation as a token of gratitude to various agencies for their contributions and services that have been provided by the frontline staff involved in curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
At the same time, he also hoped that close relationships between related agencies, especially BPHB could be maintained in order to maintain the safety and security of the community in Bintulu in dealing with COVID-19.
Also present were Bintulu Divisional Resident Datuk Jack Aman Luat who is also chairman of the Bintulu Divisional Disaster Management Committee, management of BPHB Group Company and the department heads of various agencies in Bintulu.
