MIRI: The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri District on Sunday organised a blood donation drive in conjunction with World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day to commemorate the birth of Sir Jean Henry Dunant on May 8, 1928.

Dunant founded the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and was the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.

The blood donation drive was held at MRC Miri District’s building at Jalan Bulan Sabit and officiated by Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is also the deputy chairman of MRC Miri District.

Lee said that the blood donation drive in Miri is part of the several ongoing events to mark the founder’s birthday.

“This is to also ensure a continuous and sustainable supply of bloodstocks for the people in Miri City and the surrounding rural areas, especially during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) period,” he said when met after officiating at the event.
