Blood donation drive in Miri this Sunday

MIRI: The World Blood Donor Day Blood Donation 2022 will take place this Sunday (June 12) from 8.30am to 1pm at the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Training Institute, Jalan Bulan Sabit here.

The event is organised by the Miri MRC Blood Donor Recruitment Committee, Organ Donor Recruitment Programme Sub-Committee and Health as well as Community Service Sub-Committee.

According to Miri Blood Donor Recruitment Committee chairman Karambir Singh, the World Blood Donor Day Blood Donation campaign is supported by the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA).

He thanked NSJA president Andy Jong and NSJA members for their strong support over the years.

“Miri MRC and Miri Hospital were the first to achieve the Voluntary Non-Remunerated Blood Donor status 33 years ago in Malaysia as defined by the World Health Organisation.

“The theme for this year’s World Blood Donor Day is ‘Donating blood is an act of solidarity, join the effort and save lives’.”

He disclosed on Tuesday (June 7) that there would also be a health screening programme, including free blood sugar level check and organ donation registration.

Karambir added that a certificate of appreciation would be given to all donors and he thanked them for their effort to save lives.

“We would also like to thank all the organisers from various organisations who have been holding their blood donations in collaboration with MRC at our premises.

“Various refreshments and items for the blood donors have been sponsored by The Twin Brothers Patisserie, Miri City Council, Shun Shen Lee Trading (M) Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad, Indocafe and McDonald’s.”
