DALAT: A boat with its outboard engine was stolen from a jetty at Kampung Tanam, Hulu Dalat, here, recently. The broad daylight theft which is believed to happen between noon and 1 pm on December 13 was said to be the first of such daring act at the jetty thus far.
According to a source, a male suspect alighted from a car which stopped at a village road nearby before he walked straight to the jetty and drove off in the longboat up river.
The suspect is believed to be accompanied by someone in the car who dropped him at the targeted site. The fiberglass longboat and its 15hp outboard engine belonged to a villager known only as Adrian who later lodged a police report of the theft.
The boat minus its outboard engine was found abandoned at the village cemetery at Batang Oya. Anyone who happens to see the outboard engine or knows it whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest police station or tel: 013-5612611. It is a common practice for residents in this district to berth their boats at a jetty unattended.
