Body of bathing woman who disappears after croc attack recovered

Rescuers recover the crocodile attack victim about 100 metres from the jetty at Rumah Mathis Depa, where the croc attack occurred.

MIRI: Rescuers have recovered the body of a woman who was reportedly attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Peking, Tinjar Bakong last Friday.

The victim, Runyan Tempan, 38, fondly known as ‘Bini Mawat’, was found floating about 100 metres from Rumah Mathis Depa’s longhouse jetty, Sungai Peking Tinjar Bakong at 10.30am this morning.

Runyan reportedly disappeared into the river after being attacked by a 16-foot long crocodile while bathing in the river on Friday morning.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation comprising firemen from Lopeng station assisted by local villagers was immediately launched to look for the victim.

According to fire chief zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, the victim’s body was found intact with no missing organs. There were only cuts on her right arm and forehead.

The SAR was called off at 11.30am, said Law.
