Body of missing elderly angler found

MIRI: The body of a 70-year-old angler who went missing after his boat capsized on Sunday was recovered on Monday (Mar 4), 50 metres from where the boat sank.

The discovery was made around 3.20pm by Search and Rescue operation (SAR) teams composed of firemen from Batu Niah fire and rescue station, Miri civil defence force and villagers.

The victim, identified as Lo Hon Chiew,was on the boat, alone, fishing for prawns when the boat suddenly capsized.

A SAR was immediately launched around 12.50pm on Sunday upon being alerted by villagers who spotted Lo in the water struggling to stay afloat.

The body has been taken to Miri Hospital for post mortem.
