SIBU: The body of a 50-year-old man who fell from Igan Bridge into Batang Igan on Monday was found afloat this morning (Feb 22).

Sungai Merah fire station chief Abdul Mutalif Ja’afar said the victim was retrieved by rescuers around 11.45am.

The body was found some two kilometres from the search control post.

“The deceased’s body was taken to the control post to be handed over to the hospital for a post mortem.

“Following the discovery, the authorities wrapped up the operation at noon and headed back to the station,” he said.

On Monday (Feb 20), the unfortunate incident was witnessed by two individuals at Rh Frederik Emperan Tekalong near Igan Bridge.

The first witness claimed a man wearing a red shirt and dark pants had jumped into the river while the second witness saw the victim struggling in the waters before he was drifted upstream.

Authorities also found a motorcycle on the bridge believed to belong to the victim.
