Bomba airlifts 3,973kg of food aid to 14 longhouses in Nanga Tau

TATAU: Responding to the needs of flood victims in Nanga Tau, Sungai Anap, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) delivered 231 food packages via helicopter on Jan 22.

This crucial initiative, the second day of relief efforts, targeted 14 longhouses that had become isolated due to severe flooding, leaving residents cut off from the outside world.

A total of 3,973.2kg of essential food supplies were transported using the Bomba MI-171 helicopter, under the skilled operation led by Bomba Air Unit’s pilot Sofian Ahmed @ Ibrahim, and co-pilot Robert James.

The mission, which took place between 11.38 am and 1.19 pm, aimed to alleviate the dire situation faced by the affected communities.

The recipients of the aid included residents from Rh Dilang (31 doors), Rh Medan (14), Rh Lois (eight), Rh Satan (13), Rh Saran (33), Rh Salleh (23), Rh Baja (13), Rh Suang (13) and Rh Jan (13).

Apart from the longhouse residents, the relief supplies also extended to the staff at SK Nanga Tau, Sungai Anap, and Nanga Tau Health Clinic, ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing the crisis.

The helicopter crew included flight engineer Azlan Kamin, air quartermasters Buda Mandi and Timothy Atilus, five firefighters from Tatau fire station and Bomba Zone 5, along with 10 officers from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

Last Sunday (Jan 21), the team airlifted 1,200kg of food supplies to Rh Dilang but, they were unable to make the second delivery from Bintulu due to poor weather conditions.
