KUCHING: One rural road project – from Jalan Bukit Jayong to Jalan Data Kakus, Belaga –  has been approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said this project was approved in 2022 at a cost of RM53 million.

“The scope of this project is to build a 9.4km long road,” she said in response to Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol who had asked about the government’s efforts to improve physical connectivity to the settlements of Penyarai, Ulu Anap and Sangan in Kakus.

She also said that the planning for physical connectivity to settlements in rural areas came under the state government.

“Based on this plan, the state government through the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit will submit a priority list of rural road projects to the Ministry to be applied for under each Rolling Plan of the five-year Malaysia Plan,” she said.
