BINTULU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a missing man who went looking for bamboo has been called off by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

According to a spokesperson, the decision was made on the police’s and Civil Defence Force’s (APM) advice earlier today (Apr 22).

The search operation will only be reactivated if any new clue is found.

Bomba received a distress call on Thursday (Apr 20) at 11.17pm after the man left his village around 12pm to look for bamboo to make lemang.

He was last contacted at 3pm on the same day.

The operation involved a total of 29 rescuers, six from Bomba, four from the police, nine from APM, and ten members of the public.

The SAR operation was carried out for three days in a total of 3km radius in hot spot bamboo areas.

The man, aged 31, was last seen on a motorcycle before he went missing, as confirmed by a witness.
