Bomba committed in fight against virus

KUCHING: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) is committed in assisting the Health Ministry (MOH) in the fight against Covid-19.

Its director Khirudin Drahman said the department is among the agencies that are directly involved in pandemic management.

Among its tasks and roles as decided at the Special High Level Committee (HLC) chaired by the Secretary-General on March 5 are: to carry out the disinfection and decontamination process, provide facilities (logistics and vehicle) and assist MOH in managing the bodies of the deceased that have succumbed to the virus.

Up till March 25, the state Bomba has responded to four operations involving Human Assistance Disaster Relief (HADR).

“A total of seven of firefighters were involved in assisting MOH on March 23 to decontaminate a hotel in Miri.

“On March 24, state Bomba also rendered assistance to transfer hospital equipment from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Heart Centre,” he said.

He added that on March 25, firefighters assisted the MOH to transport Person Under Investigation (PUI) cases at the Kota Samarahan clinic to SGH as well as from Tebedu Health Clinic to the isolation ward in Kota Sentosa.

Khirudin added as one of the frontline agencies, the hazardous materials (Hazmat) and the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) teams are always present and prepared at all times to ensure the quality of the department’s delivery meets the expectations of the public and stakeholders.
