Bowling: DBNA banks on support from rep

KUCHING: The Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) can count on the support of Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Illus when it organises bowling competitions.

Its Youth and Sports section head Dr Paul Tulik Peter Raig said John has been the patron and sponsor for its bowling tournament since 2018.

The assemblyman was also present during the bowling tournament that was held at at Megalanes Emart Batu Kawa on Saturday (Oct 22).

“At the closing ceremony he handed over a cheque for RM5,000 to the DBNA Youth and Sports Section.

“And he pledged his continuing support for the tournament in years to come,” he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 24).

The bowling tournament was well-participated attracting over 48 teams.

Apart from John, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang were also present to participate with their respective teams.

DBNA Penrissen branch won the closed category and received the John Ilus Challenge Trophy and medals. DBNA Bau was second, and DBNA Kuching Urban third.

The Para Bowl, comprising Sarawak Paralympians, beat 22 other teams to win the open category. They received RM1,000 cash prize and medals.

Second place went to The Revolver from the Royal Malaysia Police, who bagged RM600 cash prize and medals, while third place went to The Medixx (Health Department) who took home a cash prize of RM400 as well as medals.

Also present at the event were DBNA deputy president Dr Charlie Ungang and secretary general Jubilant Austinway.
