Boy succumbs to injuries from Jalan Airport accident

Condolences from SK South to the family of Rizq who passed away early yesterday morning.

MIRI: A 12-year-old boy who was a victim of an accident along Jalan Airport on Tuesday breathed his last yesterday (Apr 18) while receiving treatment.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that the boy identified as Rizq Aqil Mohd Firdauz passed away at Miri Hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).

“Yes, the victim passed away at around 4.30 am,” he said when asked regarding the latest developments to the case.

Meanwhile, the boy’s primary school, SK South conveyed their condolences to his family in a statement on Facebook.

The school described the late Rizq Aqil as a cheerful, friendly and diligent student.

“Rizq Aqil is not just a student but also a beacon of light in the classroom because of his passion for learning, kindness to his peers, and unwavering determination to truly inspire.

“He is known for greetings full of friendly smiles, very diligent in assisting his teachers, proactively involved in all activities and brave to take on challenges.

“In addition, his smile and friendly greeting will also always be remembered for always helping to lift the spirits of those around him, as well as often offering help to people in need,” the school said.

Rizq sustained injuries following a collision involving a Perodua Aruz and a stationary lorry at around 2.32 pm. He was the passenger of the Perodua Aruz driven by his father.

His 39-year-old father died at the scene of the accident.

The Miri City Council (MCC) on Wednesday said the council’s contractor was doing its daily routine job at Jalan Airport when the Perodua Aruz rear-ended the contractor’s lorry.

The council said that they are taking the matter seriously and will provide full cooperation to the police during the investigation process.
