KAPIT: A bridge at the Tekalit-Musah Road in Song collapsed at 9.30 pm last night (Sept 21) leaving residents and authorities alarmed.

In a swift reaction, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has taken immediate action.

“I have gathered essential information from local officials and will personally visit the site later today to assess the situation,” he said in a Facebook post.

As the bridge is part of a state road, Nanta promptly contacted the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) director to ensure a swift and effective action.

He said immediate measures were put in place last night to address the situation and ensure public safety.

“Sarawak PWD has closed the affected road starting from last night and has installed warning signs and safety devices for the safety of the residents in the area,” he said.

As investigations and inspections continue, Nanta has brought the matter to the attention of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who also serves as Infrastructure and Port Development Minister to speed up action and streamline related procedures.
