British diplomat calls on Taib, Abang Jo

KUCHING: Head of State Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, received a courtesy call from the British High Commissioner to Malaysia Charles Hay at the latter’s official residence, Demak Jaya today (July 18).

When met by reporters, Hay said that the courtesy call was his second visit to Sarawak aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations and economic and business bilateral cooperation between the British and Sarawak governments.

Also present during the courtesy call were Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Meanwhile, Hay also paid a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office, Wisma Bapa Malaysia on the same day.

The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) said in a news report that apart from discussing issues on climate change and bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and Sarawak, Charles also expressed support for the efforts and measures taken by Sarawak on carbon capture and storage technology, including green finance.

Hay said the beauty of Sarawak’s biodiversity as well as nature-based opportunities were among the topics discussed with Abang Johari.
