SRI AMAN: Two siblings lost their lives in a fatal two-vehicle collision along Jalan Stirau, Stumbin here, yesterday (Apr 15).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the accident, involving a cement-mixer lorry and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), happened at 1.27 pm.

Firefighters from Sri Aman station was dispatched to the scene, about 32km away, after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, they found two victims trapped in the MPV and extrication works were promptly carried out to free them from the wreckage.

The victims, identified as 56-year-old Joll Mohamad and 62-year-old Latifah Mohamad, were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Their bodies were taken to Sri Aman Hospital for post-mortem procedures.

Before firefighters arrived at the scene, Civil Defence Force (APM) members managed to rescue another female passenger from the MPV.

The injured woman was taken to Sri Aman Hospital for further medical treatment. The extent of her injuries is not known.

Meanwhile, the cement lorry driver, a 43-year-old man, sustained minor injuries in the collision.

Before concluding the operation, the team conducted flushing works to clear the roadway of debris to ensure that it is safe for other road users.
