KUCHING: The water main bursts yet again along the Pan Borneo highway. Scores of villages were without water yesterday when the water mains at Serian By-Pass burst.

The villages affected included Kampung Taee, Kampung Plaman Nyabet, SMK Taee, Baki Riih Road, Jalan Ensengei dan Jalan Kuching/Serian/Tapah and Tarat.

Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) in a statement said the main pipeline measuring 355mm burst due to works being carried out on the Pan Borneo highway.

Swift action by JBALB and Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU) enabled the repair works on the main pipeline to complete at 5pm yesterday.

“However, the recovery process would take some days, three to four days, especially for those on higher grounds along Jalan Ensengei, Taee and Plaman Nyabet.

“But we are doing our utmost to ensure speedy recovery,” assured the department, adding that water tankers will be ferried to the affected areas.

For enquiries and reports of water interruptions, contact JBALB Serian during office hours at 082-872030.
