SIBU: A businessman heaved a sign of relief when he was discharged by the Sessions Court yesterday from an offence of employing foreign workers illegally.

Lim Kiong Chai, 60, was earlier indicted under Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 55B (1) of the same Act, which provides a minimum fine of RM10,000 and not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to 12 months or both for each worker employed upon conviction.

He was charged with employing five foreign workers in a local karaoke lounge without proper working permits sometimes in November 2019.

He claimed trial after denying the charge preferred against him.

Subsequently, Lim was released on bail of RM5,000 in two sureties. He was represented by three lawyers, namely, Henry Ting, Jacob Wong and Jessie.
