KUCHING: Sarawak Democratic Action Party has urged the state government to come up with a comprehensive master plan to solve flash flood and serious traffic congestion in the city.

The call was made by Soo Tien Ren, an assistant to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who wants the state government to take immediate action to solve traffic congestion problems and yearly flood incidents.

He was alluding to the traffic congestion occurring daily at Kuching/Samarahan Expressway as well as several flash floods in the past month.

Soo stressed that it was the duty of the government of the day to come up with a comprehensive plan for road and drainage system.

“We need a plan to solve these two major issues that the citizens are facing every year.

“As such, I believe we have to strengthen our State Assembly’s power in scrutinising our State government, we need a higher degree of transparency in our urban planning,” said Soo in a statement yesterday.

“We need the government to tell us whether they have a plan, whether they are solving the issues, and how long they still need to solve the issues.

“Therefore, I call on the Sarawak government to table a comprehensive plan for the Urban Road and Urban Drainage system of the Kuching City in the coming DUN sitting.

“Let the people know the government’s plan to tackle the problems we faced and let us know when the problem will be solved,” stated Soo.
