SIBU: The State Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan has called upon Sarawakians to organise more international events in the state.

Snowdan said the state government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts has been consistent in supporting local industry stakeholders to host their events with assistances given through the Facilitation Fund for Heritage, Arts, and Culture, Tourism Event grants as well as various other initiatives.

“Our ministry looked at that (international event) as return investment as it will increase the visitor arrival to Sarawak,” he said in his speech at the Annual Gala Dinner M.O Sarawak 2023 at a renowned hotel here last night (Oct 28).

The Balai Ringin assemblyman also encouraged M.O Sarawak and the Sarikei Dayak Talent Association to consider hosting an international fashion show to attract attention outside Sarawak.

“Several fashion designers from the Semenanjung have approached our ministry with proposals for international events in Sarawak. Nevertheless, I am confident that our local, youthful talent can also successfully orchestrate such events,” he said.

Drawing inspiration from the Borneo Sonic event, which was organised by local industry players and successfully featured international artists, Snowdan challenged M.O Sarawak to emulate a similar achievement.

Snowdan also announced an allocation of RM10,000 for M.O Sarawak and the Sarikei Dayak Talent Association to support their future endeavours.

The event was also attended by notable personalities such as Mr World Malaysia 2022 Joshua Benedict, Miss World Malaysia 2022 Wenanita Angang, Actress Sanjna Suri, and other distinguished guests.

Also participating were Sarawak artists, including Jenarino Jeraki, Urai, Rozlina and others with about 1,000-strong attendees.
