KUCHING: Physical distancing is considered one the best measures that needs to be implemented by all parties to curtail the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Each individual has a role to play in ensuring the reduction of COVID-19 cases, including complying with standard operating procedures (SOPs) such as wearing a face mask, washing hands frequently and practising physical distancing while also avoiding large gathering especially in public and enclosed places.

There have been calls by certain parties for the government to re-impose physical distancing in public areas.

Most members of the public interviewed by the New Sarawak Tribune agreed that maintaining physical distancing is important to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“In my opinion, we should take precautions to ensure our safety and health levels are under control. With the use of face masks, physical distancing allows us to always be aware of what is happening.

“We should not let the past tragedy happen again. Whether it is necessary or not to use a face mask or maintain physical distance, we should already know and take note of what has happened.”

“Even now there are still some people who still maintain physical distancing. It depends on an individual. It is true that people still practise social distancing and wear face masks. Always bring along hand sanitiser wherever we go to ensure our safety and health. Again, if people who have not taken the booster vaccine or do not take the vaccine at all, it is necessary to take precautions, especially children and the elderly who are at a higher risk. So basically we need to maintain social distancing.”

“As we know that COVID-19 has being around until today, we should continue to follow the SOP that has being set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

“This is for our own safety to protect ourselves and prevent further spread of the virus. To minimise the spread, virtual activities should be approved by the government too because the less face to face activity the less COVID-19 is spread.”

“Yes, maintaining physical distancing is important because it can prevent us from being infected with the COVID-19 virus.

“The existing measures have also given many good effects to former COVID-19 patients and this proves that these measures should be applied in the community to reduce COVID-19.”
