SIBU: Single Dayak ladies aged 18 and above are encouraged to vie for titles in a Kumang Competition that will be held on July 21 at Sibu Town Square.

The Kumang Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival (BDCF) is organised in conjunction with the town’s annual event, Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF).

SIDS chairperson Angelyn Uchi Maseng said attractive prizes awaited the winners.

“Together with other complementary prizes, the first prize winner for the Kumang category will bag RM5,000 while the first runner-up (Lulong) RM3,000  and the second runner-up (Selinggar Matahari) RM2,000,” she said.

Seven other winners (4th to 10th) will take home RM600 each.

“Only those who are at least 150cm are eligible for the competition and successful participants who qualify for the final round will be required to showcase the ‘Ngepan Iban’ attire.

“Participants will likely go through a screening stage to determine those who will proceed to the next rounds and the final stage  but it will depend on the number of participants.
