MIRI: The Customs Department in this district on Tuesday confiscated 37,160 sticks of cigarettes valued at RM3,344.40 with unpaid duties at RM27,230.85 during a raid on Taniku Estate canteen in Kuala Baram.
During the raid, the team also detained a man to assist in their investigation.
The team carried out a check on the premises and discovered the contrabands in a storage room, said Sarawak Customs director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha in a statement.
She said the team had been monitoring the activities of the suspect who had been selling the contrabands to nearby estate workers.
The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for possession of goods not approved by Customs.
