Cashier arrested for allegedly embezzling RM400k

MIRI: A 32-year old woman working as a cashier at an oil palm company in Niah was arrested on suspicion of committing a criminal breach of trust by embezzling RM401,720.

According to Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the arrest of the woman was made on Thursday (March 9) after the company’s executive officer lodged a police report.

He said that further investigations found that the suspect was believed to have committed a criminal breach of trust by using the company’s money for personal use and not making payments to the company’s clients.

He disclosed that the complainant filed a police report after a company’s customer informed them that the suspect allegedly did not return any payment to them after the sale of the palm fruit on Nov 23, 2022 to March 7, 2023 which cost RM401,720.

The suspect is currently remanded for four days from March 11 to 14.

Alexson added that the case is being investigated under Section 408 of the Penal Code.
