KUCHING: The Learning Curve, a Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) social enterprise, aspires to establish cashless schools all over Sarawak as part of its efforts towards digitalisation.

Founder Kenneth Chai said 50 schools in Kuching, Padawan and Serian would initially be involved in its project.

“If everything goes well, we are going to develop it to other states in Malaysia,” he told a press conference after officiating at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Malaysia Network Information Centre (MYNIC) Berhad, the Learning Curve and the Sarawak’s State Education Department (JPN) here at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday (October 5).

Meanwhile, chief executive officer of MYNIC Berhad, Datuk Ts. Hasnul Fadhly Hasan said the partnership between MYNIC, the Learning Curve, and the 50 schools that were involved in the project signified a collective commitment to empower Malaysian schools with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the digital landscape and ecosystem securely and efficiently.

“MYNIC is proud to play a pivotal role in this initiative, providing schools with .MY domain name as a stepping stone towards their digital journey which will contribute directly to the digital nation agenda,” he said.

Hasnul added that by fostering a robust digital ecosystem, the initiative aimed to facilitate the seamless transition of schools towards an entirely digital platform for various aspects of school life, including event notifications, school activities and fundraising through secure online transactions.

“This MOU marks a significant milestone in the advancement of digital education in Malaysia, setting the stage for schools to embrace a more digital future.

“It is anticipated that this will lead to schools creating digital contents, performing electronic transactions and disseminating information through the digital gateway that they create,” he said.

The MOU signing ceremony was witnessed by the Secretary General of Ministry of Communication and Digital Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa. Also present were the Assistant Director of JPN Sarawak Dr Raymond Maurice Stephan Bujang and other distinguished guests.
