Chicken-preying snakes captured in different locations

MIRI: The Malaysia Civil Defence Force (MCDF) here had a busy this morning after responding to three snake sightings at different locations.

A spokesman for MCDF Miri said they received emergency calls at 8 am, 9.30 am and 9.50 am for assistance to capture the snakes.

The first case involved a nine-foot long python inside a chicken coop at Lorong Piasau Jaya 3A ,Piasau Jaya Phase 4.

Upon receiving the call, three members were despatched to the scene and met with a 62-year-old woman who saw the reptile coiled under the roof of the chicken coop while feeding the chicken.

The team then secured the area and captured the python with a bulging belly using a snake thong.

Meanwhile, the second case involved a three-foot long bronzeback hiding under a chair at Jalan Sealine 1, Lutong.

A five-member team was then deployed to the scene and met with a 29-year-old man who claimed that the snake entered his house through the window while he was heading out.

The team quickly scouted the area and captured the reptile that was coiled up under a chair.

For the third case, APM Miri managed to capture a three-foot long king cobra after a 52-year-old woman came across the snake while heading out to her backyard at Jalan Point Setia, Lutong Baru.

The venomous snake was spotted under a tank behind the woman’s house and it was captured using a snake thong.

All of the snakes were later released to their original habitat, away from the residential areas.
