The press statement

KUCHING: The Council of Churches of Malaysia expressed shocked by the statement by former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin accusing Christians here to be in cahoots with a group of Jews to promote and ‘Christianise’ Malaysians.

“This statement is not only untrue but is irresponsible of a politician of his standing to make such a statement to the public which is carried out and widely viewed on social media or the public,” said it’s general secretary Rev Jonathan Jesudas in a press statement here today.

“We live in a multi-religious and multi-racial country and the sensitivity of each community must be taken into account when addressing public forums.

“Such statements, carelessly uttered, have a tendency to create racial and religious tensions and strife.

“It must be addressed by the authorities to ensure that such blatant disregard of the truth, and of the sensitivities of the various religions are not condoned,” he added.
