KUCHING: Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abd Wahab said his re-appointment as chairman of the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) is both an honour and a great responsibility.

The appointment, which took effect on April 3, will see Yusuf helming the organisation for two more years after first assuming the post on May 1, 2020, replacing Datuk Dr Meor Abdul Aziz Osman who went on retirement.

“I would like to thank the government, the ministry and the Prime Minister for trusting me to be CIDB chairman once again.

“God willing, I will play my role to the best of my ability to ensure the development of the construction industry in this country,” he said.

Yusuf, 59, is currently the Director of Wahba Consulting Engineers Sdn Bhd in addition to being a member of the professional bodies of the Malaysian Engineers Board (BEM), the Malaysian Institute of Engineers (EIM) and the Malaysian Engineers Advisory Association.

“I really hope for the cooperation of CIDB staff and those involved in this sector so that Malaysia’s construction industry can prosper and be on par with other countries,” he said.

In addition to that position, he was also appointed chairman of the Special Parliamentary Level Committee on Infrastructure Development which comprises government and opposition parliamentarians.

According to Yusuf, several agencies including the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, the Ministry of Local Government Development and the Ministry of Communications and Digital are also included under the committee.

“We will look at the role of each of these agencies in addition to submitting suggestions and feedback to the relevant ministries if there are improvements needed in the development projects being carried out,” he said.
