CM to grace 29th Kuching City Day do

KUCHING: In conjunction with the 29th Kuching City Day, the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will be launching its DBKU Metropolitan Free Wifi and DBKU Whatsapp on 1 August.

The ceremony will be launched by the Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg at  Stadium Perpaduan, here.

Themed “Unity in Diversity”, the event is organised by both DBKU and the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

Various programmes will be held in conjunction with the Kuching City Day.

There will be lucky draws offering mobile phones, PS4 game consoles and a lot of other gadgets as prizes.

Also making an appearance during the event will be popular Sarawak singer, Dayang Nurfaizah.

“After the celebration, DBKU will follow up with many events from August until December.

“We want to highlight the most immediate event right after the City Day celebration and that is the Kuching City Street Parade 2017 which will be held on 12 August at 6.30pm;  approximately 41 contingents will be involved.

“The parade will start at Travillion Commercial Centre and  proceed to areas such as Jalan Petanak and Jalan Padungan and pass the grand stand located in front of Hilton Hotel before ending at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg via the Kuching Post Office Road,”  Mayor of DBKU, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai told a press conference held at Stadium Perpaduan here yesterday.

He also highlighted that prior to the parade, a mini concert featuring AKIM & THE MAJISTRET would be held at the Godown Amphitheatre, Kuching Waterfront  from 4.00pm to 6.00pm.

Some of the parade contingents comprised schools, NGOs, community groups, government agencies and departments.

The parade will also be attended by Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, as well as the Head of State, His Excellency, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Apart from that, DBKU will also hold events such as the annual Siol Mountain Bike Challenge, I Luv Kuching City 2017, KomunitiKU Cergas, Futsal Tournament (Mayor’s Cup), Ride for Unity and Peace, Golf Tournament (Mayor’s Cup), Kuching City International Dart Open 2017 and many more.

Also ongoing at the same time will be the Kuching Festival held from 28 July until 20 August at the Community Hall in Jalan Padungan. It will be open from 6.00pm to 11.00pm.

Other events that will be held in conjunction with the Kuching Festival are the International Friendship Cities Night happening from 28 July to 30 July (7.00pm – 10.00pm), Kuching’s Got Talent, Football Tournament (Mayor’s Cup), Garden Show, Badminton Tournament, Sports TOTO 3 on 3 Basketball Jamboree and CASH Martial Arts Display.

There will also be Traditional Oriental Music performances, Folk Dance Performances, Kuching Zumba Fiesta, a Rugby Tournament, a Hockey Tournament, the Mayor’s Walk/Treasure Hunt and Yuanji Dance Performances. 

MBKS Mayor, Dato James Chan Khay Syn welcomes everyone from Kuching and the  surrounding areas to  join the fun during the month-long festival.
