KAPIT: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji JohariTun Openg is scheduled to visit Kapit on 25 April.
Chairing the committee meeting held at the conference room of the State Office Complex on Tuesday morning, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi promised a rousing welcome for Johari’s first official visit to Kapit.
“Datuk Amar Abang Johari is making his first official visit to Kapit since he become the Chief Minister of Sarawak. We welcomed the good news and since this is his first official visit to Kapit as the Chief Minister, we will definitely make it a rousing welcome for him,” he said when chairing the committee meeting held at the conference room of the State Office Complex here on Tuesday.
He said they were looking forward to the Chief Minister to allocate some money to conduct a feasibility study to be undertaken by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), in collaboration with other institutions, on Rejang Development Authority (REDA).
“There are ideas that I would like to suggest for REDA to be established here to develop the mid and upper Rajang areas in the fashion like what we have in Terengganu which they called KETENGAH,” he said.
Nanta said it would be very important in the future to create economic activities for the people staying in these areas.
“We can develop their land following the modules that are already successful elsewhere. We have vast track of land here,” he pointed out.
Also present at the meeting were Bukit Goram State Assemblyman Jefferson Jamit, Pelagus State Assemblyman Wilson Nyabong, Political Secretaries to the Chief Minister Nicholas Kudi Jantai and Tapah Ata, Kapit Walikota PhilimonNuing, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit, Bukit Mabong District Officer Douglas Pungga, Song District Officer Jackline August and Belaga District Officer Juan Ubit.
