SIBURAN: The Sarawak Furniture Industry Association (SFIA) and Puncak Borneo Parliamentary Service Centre will continue their collaboration in their corporate service responsibility (CSR) programme to help the needy.

“This is our continuous effort with SIFA so that we can help those in need,” he told reporters after receiving aid from SIFA for three hardcore poor families, which was presented by its president Leo Chiang Kon Sze here today.

Willie said that the service centre also works with SIFA to register those who are interested to work in the furniture industry.

“They can come and register with the Puncak Borneo Service Centre and all the data we collect will be handed over to SFIA for the interview process.

“We hope that this kind of CSR programme can help them to secure jobs that will surely improve their living. By giving proper training and job opportunities, it will definitely change their lifestyle,” added Willie.

Willie, who is the caretaker Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, said the ministry would provide training for those who intended to work in furniture industries.

Hence, he urged those who are interested to come to his service centre to be assisted.

Meanwhile SFIA president Leo Chiang Kok Sze said the industries are looking for manpower, and urged those interested to grab the opportunities by attending training provided by the industries and eventually secure a job with them.

“We are collaborating with Puncak Borneo Service Centre and other constituencies,” he added.

Leo said today SFIA donated basic necessities worth RM10,000 to three hardcore poor families.

The items include dining sets, stoves, stools, study tables, chairs and mattresses and RM200 to each family.

The recipients are the family of Julia Singun at Kampung Panchor Dayak, Serian, Boniface Kanyui at Kampung Plaman Toop, Jalan Kuching-Serian and Jugah Ganjoh at Kampung Segu Benuk.

Meanwhile Willie said many incentives had been given to the community in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency during his four years as a MP.

He said that since becoming an elected representative of the constituency, he has given out educational incentives to hundreds of students who are pursuing their studies at institutes of higher learning – RM300 for diploma studies and RM500 for degree.

In addition, he said he also gave cash assistance of RM300 to chronic patients, oxygen equipment, wheelchairs and canes to patients and RM300 bereavement money to purchase coffins and burial costs.

“We also provide other incentives such as building houses under the PPRT programme where we have built several houses and repair dilapidated houses of the hardcore poor families.

“We also helped families who cannot afford to pay the cost of connecting electricity and treated water,” he said.

According to Willie, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Puncak Borneo Service Centre helped 17,393 families by delivering two rounds of food aid.

“We will continue with our welfare activities because as a representative of the people of Puncak Borneo, I strongly believed in taking care of the people’s welfare and education.

“Education is very important as we need a lot of quality human capital that can bring socio-economic development to their families, communities and areas,” he added.
