KUCHING: Five organisations have come together to launch the Free Prosthetic Implant Charity Programme, aiming to provide 250 free prosthetic limbs to improve the lives of disabled individuals in Sarawak.
The collaborative effort is led by Datuk Ibrahim Baki and involves the Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Peduli Tuna Daksa Foundation, Sadhu Vaswani Mission, Che Hui Khor Kuching, and Ming Ya Shang Ge Jakarta.
Ibrahim, also the Satok assemblyman, expressed his satisfaction with the programme’s success in not only benefitting the Satok community but also the broader Kuching area.
“The initiative has already assisted around 115 to 120 individuals with prosthetic limbs out of the allocated 250.
“The initial phase, which took place on May 28 in the Satok area, involved measurements taken by a technical team from Jakarta.
“The second phase included fitting the prosthetic limbs that were brought back from Jakarta and taking measurements for 33 newly registered individuals from the Satok area.”
He shared these details during a press conference after the programme here on Wednesday (Aug 23).
Ibrahim emphasised that this effort transcends race and religion, promoting racial and religious integration within Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Sadhu Vaswani Mission chairman Datuk Pishu Murli Hassaram encouraged other non-profit organisations to follow suit and organise initiatives that benefit society.
“It’s a very nice feeling to see the disabled walk again, and such an initiative will help them lead a better and productive life.
“This collaboration is an example of how we can work for the betterment of the community.”
During the programme, Ibrahim handed over cheques totalling RM650,000 to the Sarawak Sikh Temple Association for upgrading the Gurdwara Sahib Temple and RM50,000 to the Borneo Evangelical Mission for church development. These funds were provided through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
