KUCHING: Dayak associations have been urged to come together, collaborating with the government and local representatives to articulate their perspectives and promote bilateral relations.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government I Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said a political background should not be a deterrent to any association to be placed under one roof.

He made these remarks during the Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Pampang Miri’s 33rd anniversary celebration dinner recently.

“An example is the Orang Ulu community, they have been able to successfully bring together existing associations under a single umbrella known as the Federation of Orang Ulu Association of Sarawak (FORUM),” he said.

Later, Dr Penguang allocated a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM20,000 to SIDS Miri Branch to carry out their annual activities.

The event also saw incentives presented to children of members of SIDS who obtained excellent results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), Diplomas and Degrees.
