Community leaders and NGOs should work together

KUCHING: The community leaders and non-governmental organisation (NGOs) in the State should play their role by working together with the government in ensuring the next generation is equipped with the essential knowledge for their future.

Minister of Works Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that education and skills is important for the young generation in preparing them for the future challenges.

“It is important to ensure that our community, especially our children are equipped with the right skills and knowledge, including spiritual knowledge, and this balance of knowledge must be applied to our young generation.

“That is where we as the leaders, NGOs and community leaders should play their role to come out with a suitable approach and we in the ministry level will help to implement whatever the community think is suitable and best for them,” said Fadillah in his speech at the Kampung Siol Kandis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri held at Grand Dormani Hotel, Jalan Pending here yesterday.

He added the State government is serious in enhancing the education level by establishing the new ministry which is the Ministy of Education, Science and Technological Research Sarawak headed by Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong.

Fadillah also noted that the ministry is focused on enhancing the learning in Science, Technology, English and Mathematic (STEM) subject.

He said mastering the Science, technology and innovation knowledge is important in the future.

“The national level is focused on STEM, as English language is being used as the medium of learning as the language have wider coverage,” Fadillah said, adding that is why the community must play their collective role to act, to ensure that the next generation can master this STEM fields.

On another matter, Fadillah also announced an allocation of a total of RM120,000 for the upgrading and renovation project of Kampung Siol Kandis Dayak and Kampung Siol Kandis Melayu.

Among the projects were upgrading of ‘Lorong 6’ in Kampung Siol Kandis Dayak (RM20,000), upgrading of car park lot at St Paul Church in Siol Kandis (RM30,000), renovation of concrete drain in Kampung Siol Kandis Melayu (RM50,000) and renovation of Futsal field (RM20,000).
