KUCHING: The Sarawak Gerontology and Geriatrics Society (SGGS) will host the ‘Active Aging Conference’ on March 16 and 17 at Imperial Hotel here to celebrate the potential of seniors and promote a vibrant and fulfilling life.

Themed ‘Active Aging: Mind, Body, Spirit,’ the conference will feature prominent speakers such as Dr Cecilia Chan and Dr Allen Power presenting on the topic of ‘mind’, Charles Barton on ‘wellness,’ Easter Sim and Gary Tho on ‘senior exercise’.

Additionally, George Tay will speak on music and singing, Michael Tan (financial management for seniors), Chan Siew Yan (will writing), Dr Andrew Kiyu (third age), Maimunah Natasha (spirit), and Dr Sally Suriani Ahip (community geriatrics specialist).

SGGS president Dennis Tan thanked Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian for his support and generous grant towards the event.

“We invite everyone to join us on this transformative journey to celebrate the potential of seniors, embrace a vibrant life, and express gratitude for the privilege of being a senior,” he said.

A highlight of the conference is the Gala Night Dinner Performance on March 16 at 7 pm, showcasing the practice of active aging.

The diverse programme will include a Sarawak cultural dance, Kuching senior choir, multi-ethnic fashion parade, and unique performances like the ‘I am Happy’ dance and ‘Nga Chi’, a fusion of traditional art forms, among others.

Registration for the conference is open, with fees covering all sessions, two lunches, three teas, and the gala dinner.

The price for SGGS member is RM200, Sarawakian non-members (RM300), Malaysian non-Sarawakians (RM400), and non-Malaysians (RM500). A separate gala dinner ticket is available at RM200.
