Connections Toastmasters line up exciting programmes

KUCHING: The newly-elected officers of Connections Toastmasters Club here are rolling out a host of initiatives to empower individuals to become effective communicators and leaders.

President Lucy Ho Jia Yiing said “tons of exciting programmes will be introduced to enable the members of the community to learn about Toastmasters, and the opportunities available for one to take the all-important first step to enhance one’s communication and leadership skills”.

Giving an example, as an English teacher at SMK Batu Lintang, she said she has used her knowledge and experience as a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) to add value to the teaching and learning ecosystem, specifically to facilitate her students’ communication and leadership skills development.

During the club’s installation and appreciation dinner on Saturday (July 16) at Rock Road Seafood Restaurant here, Toastmasters International’s District 87 director Agustinus Widjaya commended the outgoing club officers under the leadership of its former president Datuk Sri Charles Voon Jan Poh for their perseverance amidst the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also expressed his confidence that its new president and her club officers would work closely to achieve their noble objective.

At the event, DTM, past international prescient of Toastmasters International Datuk John Lau Pang Heng stressed the urgent need for Toastmasters to be prepared at all times – ready to tackle challenges head-on.

Earlier on the same day, Agustinus and other senior district officers conducted the Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) training round one for club officers of various Toastmasters clubs in the city and the training was held at i-CATS University College.

On the other hand, Voon presented a letter of appreciation to Connections Toastmasters Club’s Charter president Esther Law Lee Poh.

This was in recognition of her numerous contributions or sponsorship over the years to support the activities of the club and her generous contributions have facilitated the club’s ongoing effort to advance the noble cause of communication and leadership skills development for the benefit of the populace.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation that teaches communication or public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs.

Connections Toastmasters Club in Kuching welcomes individuals who are keen to hone their communication/public speaking and leadership skills.

Members will also be able to develop these essential skills in a friendly and supportive environment.

Meetings are held fortnightly, starting at 8 pm on the second and fourth Thursday of the month.
