BINTANGOR: The My Rakyat Sales Programme, which provides an opportunity for local small entrepreneurs to promote agricultural products, has been well received by the public.
Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said through My Rakyat, the public has the opportunity to obtain essential goods and fresh products directly from manufacturers without going through intermediaries.
“Agricultural and food products as well as dried goods are sold at very reasonable prices. At the same time, I see the response is very encouraging,” he said on Saturday (Mar 12).
The programme supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) is held in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).
Ding wants My Rakyat to be utilised fully as it can be a platform to boost the potential of the area as a producer of agricultural and fishery products.
“The effort of organising such a programme proved that the government continues to strengthen the agricultural sector because it realises the great potential of the field in helping the socioeconomic development of the people, especially in this district.
“In addition, natural resources can be a contributor to ensure the agricultural sector in Meradong continues to grow in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ding added that Meradong’s strategic location, which has a major logistics network such as roads, can make it easier for residents to market agricultural products.
According to him, the government through various agencies provides a substantial allocation to develop this sector.
“In fact, we have introduced various approaches to ensure that it continues to grow. This initiative also aims to encourage community participation, especially the younger generation in this field.
“With great interest and cooperation by the traders, I hope the organisation of the My Rakyat sales programme can elevate the field of agriculture, especially in this area,” he said.
