SIBU: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized contraband alcohol worth more than RM290,000 from a house last Friday (Feb 5).

Acting on public information and intelligence gathered under ‘Ops Libas’, a GOF 10th Battalion carried out the raid around 10.45am on a house suspected to be used to store the contraband alcoholic drinks.

As no one turned up at the premises after staying on guard for three hours, the team entered the premises by cutting the locks of the gate and the door.

A spokesperson said the team’s inspection in the house led to the discovery of 1,692 boxes of alcoholic drinks that do not have any Customs tax sticker.

The team later seized the goods valued about RM299,825.92 including taxes.

The 14,006.88 litres of alcoholic beverages were handed over to Sibu CID for further investigations under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
