SARATOK: Contractors should not consider projects under the Rural Transformation Program (RTP) as small projects that should be done casually.

In stating this, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said that government projects needed to be considered in a serious manner.

According to him, the RTP project worth tens and hundreds of thousands ringgit should not have any problems.

“But actually there is also an issue of delay because there are still people who think the RTP project is a small project.

“I think this mentality should be changed. When we are elected, then receive a contract, that is the responsibility that should be carried out as best as possible,” he told Suara Sarawak, yesterday.

He said if problems arise, the contractor needs to discuss with the implementing agency to sort out any problems.

“On my part as a representative of the people who is fighting for a project, I am ready to help. Our focus is to ensure that there are no problematic projects, delays and so on.

“That’s why before a project starts, I advise solving all related issues so that the work is not interrupted in mid-way,” he said.

Earlier, he was represented by the deputy head of PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) Kalaka Branch councillor Kasdi Pandi and PBB Kalaka secretary Gapor Ahmad in witnessing the handing over of the project by the Public Works Department (PWD) Saratok to the contractor.

“It involves five RTP projects this year, which are the upgrading of the number one lane of Sungai Paon Seberang in Saratok Town, the upgrading of the Saratok Islamic Welfare Trust (Lakis) building, the upgrading of Saratok Jamek Mosque, the upgrading of Saratok District Office infrastructure and the upgrading of Kampung Pagan Surau under the second phase.

“All the appointed contractors were drawn by lot and I hope that they will be able to implement the project according to the set schedule,” he added.
